Derek Webb (prev. Cadmeon's Call): Who said you can't download my music for free ?

Derek Webb: Who said you can't download my music for free ?

Did you watch the CSI "Kid Rock" episode the other night? In that show, Kid Rock gave a pre-
release CD to his driver to distribute on the 'net. - secretly. All Hush hush. Well, this is the real life --and legal version of that.

A letter from Derek Webb (previously of Cadmeon's Call):

ilove music. i have grown up with music as a close confidant. and i believe in the power of music to move people. there's something remarkable about the way a Melody can soften someone to a new idea.

as an artist (and often an AGITATOR), this is something i am keenly aware of. my most recent record 'mockingbird' deals with many sensitive issues including Poverty, War, and the Basic Ethics by which we live and deal with others. but i found that music has been an exceptional means by which to get this potentially difficult conversation going. and this is certainly an important moment for dialogue amongst people who DISAGREE about how to best love and take care of people, to get into the nuances of the issues.

one of the things that excites me most about the future of our business is how easy it is becoming to deliver music to people who want to hear it. i heard a story once about Keith Green CARING SO MUCH THAT PEOPLE WERE ABLE TO HEAR and engage with his music that HE GAVE IT AWAY FOR FREE, which was a very difficult and expensive thing to do at that time. it's actually never been as simple as it is today to connect music with music fans. and i want people to have a chance to listen to mockingbird and engage in the conversation.

so this is why, on September 1st, we're launching HTTP:\\WWW.FREEDEREKWEBB.com, (freederekwebb DOT com) a place where anyone can go online and not just hear but actually download, keep, and share 'mockingbird' completely for free. In addition, freederekwebb.com will give you an opportunity to invite your friends to download 'mockingbird' in order to get them in on the conversation as well.

we hope this BOLD campaign will provide a jumping off point for conversations about all of these issues, and communicate my commitment to playing my part in starting them. so please help us spread the word: on september 1st, 'mockingbird' will be set free!

{ signup to be reminded about the download and to SHOW YOUR SUPPORT for this! }

Oh gravity

From the letdown to nothing, now everything is STILL going down.
Oh Gravity! by Switchfoot, their latest effort. Soon to purchased, ripped to mp3 and shared incessantly over the web, usb drives, memory sticks and burned CDs! The purchased CD? Its at home, somewhere, I haven't taken a look at it since I ripped it. : )

Here's a letter from the guys..and if you haven't seen how hard they worked on Oh, Gravity! - ready your DSL connection, install Itunes and download their large video album production podcasts!  There's some time lapse photography here --to let you feel so bad you simply didn't buy the Switchfoot TShirts (online!) while you were copying their songs!

On to the letter:

Hello Friends,

So much going on around here, a blur of creativity with album artwork and final sonic tweaks on the new songs. We have several announcements concerning the new album. First we must recognize a very important guest musician who will be laying down the final musical contribution this week... congratulations to Sarah Mooridian the winner of the cowbell contest! For those of you who have been following the podcasts you probably already know that the title of the new album is Oh! Gravity. It may be a little early to be thinking about Christmas but we're already counting down the days because the new album release date is set for December 26. We'll preview some of the new music on our site very soon and you'll be able to pre-order the album as well. We can't wait to get out and start playing these new songs live so we are planning a fall U.S. tour in October/November. Stay tuned for tour details.

-Jon, Tim, Chad,Jerome, and Drew

P.S. If you didn't buy your copy of the their music , buy their tshirts online:  http://www.bandfarm.com/switchfoot/index.php  Shoppin questions:?  http://www.bandfarm.com/switchfoot/faq.php

How you can personally help Jars of Clay!

How you can personally help Jars of Clay. : )

Jars Team,

Happy Wednesday...we hope everyone is having a great week and enjoying what is left of the summer! The official countdown has begun, 27 days until "Good Monsters" hits stores! The start of this countdown also means that we need your help!

How can you help spread the word? Well, we are glad you asked. We realize that some of you don't have much spare time depending on if you work, go to school, hang out with your kids, etc...so we want to throw out a couple of ways you can help in a huge way that will only take ten minutes out of your day! (Of course if you have tons of spare time...disregard my "ten minutes max") Check it out.....

1. Are you online daily? Do you have a myspace page? Do you hang out on messageboards? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then this little way to help is for you. We have created some awesome "Good Monsters" buddy icons, banners, and wallpapers! Download Here: http://www.jarsofclay.com/downloads/. Pick out a buddy icon and spread the word about the new record while you are chatting, download one of the online banners...throw it up on your myspace page, use it as your signature on messageboards/emails....both are easy to do and tghe best part is it only takes a couple of minutes!

2. Do you email daily? Do you keep in touch with friends/family through email? Do you like to be one of the first ones to tell your friends/family about new music? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then this way to help has your name all over it. One thing we realize is taht one of the best ways to tell people about Jars and "Good Monsters" is to let their fans do the talking for us...which means you guys, because you guys have been so amazing and so supportive...we feel who better to tell other people and spread the music in their direction than you guys! One of the easiest ways to go about this is to take ten minutes, sit down, and write a little email to your friends, family, co-workers, and anybody else you can think of that would dig Jars. What you put in the email is up to you...but some details to throw in: "Good Monsters" hits stores Sept 5th, www.good-monsters.com, and www.jarsofclay.com, and then whatever you want to add.

There you have it...two ways that are a huge help to the guys but that are easy and don't take all day! Keep checking your email weekly...we are going to be sending out an email each week leading up to release day!

A couple things to be in the know about (just in case you don't already):

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlnN3-Lqoc4"> Video #4 </a><br><br>

*You may have already been hearing a couple of the new songs on your local radio station. Over the new few weeks, we are going to be updating the websites with a list of all the radio stations in the country that should be playing either "Dead Man (Carry Me)" or "Work". We need your help! If you are hearing the song(s), please call or email you local station(s) and tell them that you love it and to keep playing it! If your local station(s) is not playing the song(s), we need you to tell them you want to hear it!

*Aside from some festival dates coming up in the near future, the guys will be on the road for most of the fall. For most of October, they will be joined by two wonderful artist you should definitely know about: Matt Wertz ( http://www.mattwertz.com) and Leigh Nash ( http://www.leighnash.com). Once we have all the dates finalized, we will send out full information, including where to get tickets. In the meantime, keep checking the website for updates and all current confirmed dates.

Stay Tuned...next week we will be sending out a little message form the guys that you don't want to miss! And as always thanks so much for your love and support!

Team Jars
